Docking of the multifunctional asymmetric icebreaker “Baltika” in 2025.
The world's only asymmetric icebreaker “Baltika” was built in Finland in 2014. The length of the vessel is 72.1 m, the width is 20.5 m. Due to the use of three 2.5 MW azimuth thrusters (two in the stern and one in the bow), the vessel can break ice up to 60 centimeters thick, moving at a speed of 3 knots at an angle to the ice field and leaving behind a strip of clear water 50 meters wide, which ensures the passage of large-tonnage vessels in the ice. When moving straight ahead, the vessel can break ice up to 1 meter thick
The multifunctional vessel can be used to eliminate oil spills on the sea surface. When moving at an angle, the oil film shifts to the stern end and is collected in the vessel's tanks through the open lap port.
The icebreaker belongs to the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Marine Rescue Service" and was used in the Gulf of Finland, during the construction of a port in the Gulf of Ob and ensuring the safe operation of the drilling platform "Prirazlomnaya".
In April 2025, the Kanonersky Shiprepairing Yard carried out the docking of the ice-breaker "Baltika" with the implementation of all planned works.
