Docking of the ice-resistant self-propelled platform "North Pole".
The ice-resistant self-propelled platform "North Pole" is a unique and the only vessel in the world designed for scientific research in the drifting ice of the Arctic Ocean. It was built at the Admiralty Shipyards in 2022. The vessel has a rounded hull with the highest class of ice resistance and is capable of providing comfortable living conditions for the crew and scientists at ambient temperatures down to minus 50 degrees Celsius!
On September 2, 2022, the vessel set out on the first Arctic expedition "SP-41" into the ice of the Arctic Ocean and after 574 days, on April 28, 2024, completed the drift and returned to St. Petersburg.
In July 2024, the Kanonersky Ship Repairing Yard carried out the dry-docking of the "North Pole" ice-resistant platform for a thorough inspection of the hull and revision of the ship's systems, machines and mechanisms. After completing all the necessary works, the vessel was ready for sailing and on August 29, 2024, the ice-resistant platform set out on another voyage to continue scientific research in the Arctic.
